We are looking to appoint a student assistant (7-10h/week; SHK/WHF) with effect from September 1, 2022 on a fixed-term contract until August 31, 2023 as support for the research project Desirable Digitalisation: Rethinking AI for Just and Sustainable Futures.

The Center for Science and Thought (CST) is a radically interdisciplinary platform designed to address urgent questions that arise at the intersection of philosophy and various natural sciences. We are looking to appoint a

Student Assistant 7-10h/week

(SHK/WHF)

with effect from September 1, 2022 on a fixed-term contract until August 31, 2023 as support for the research project Desirable Digitalisation: Rethinking AI for Just and Sustainable Futures, a cooperation of the CST at the University of Bonn and the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI) at the University of Cambridge, funded by the Mercator foundation. The new research project comes as the European Commission negotiates its Artificial Intelligence Act, which has ambitions to ensure AI becomes more “trustworthy” and “human-centric”. The researchers on the Desirable Digitalisation project will collaboratively investigate the many questions that arise from these plans, such as: What exactly does a “human-centric” approach to AI look like? How can we meaningfully assess whether and how AI systems violate fundamental rights and values? And how can we foster awareness of discriminatory practices and how to stop them?

Your tasks

  • support with research and press relations
  • support with the organization and execution of events, conferences and workshops
  • German-English translation for the website or similar outlets
  • maintenance of the project’s website and social media presence
  • administrative support with tasks in the project’s office 

Your profile   

  • You are enrolled at the University of Bonn (bachelor’s or master’s programme)
  • You are proficient in spoken and written English
  • You are an independent and highly motivated individual with good organizational skills
  • You enjoy working with an international team and in interdisciplinary collaboration
